Pamela Colombo holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of País Vasco (UPV), a BA in Sociology from the University of Buenos Aires (UBA), and a MA in the Philosophy of History from the University Autónoma de Madrid (UAM). She was Doctoral Researcher at Spanish National Research Council (CSIC, 2009-2013) and was Visiting Researcher at the Center for Place, Culture and Politics (CUNY, New York), the Centre for Research Architecture (Goldmisths College, London), the Freie Universität Berlin (FU, Berlin) and the University of Konstanz (Germany). She co-organised the International Conferences “Spatialities of Exception, Violence, and Memory” (Madrid, February 2012) and “Thinking Memory through Space: Materiality, Representation and Imagination” (London, 2013).  She is the co-editor of the book “Space and the memories of violence” (Palgrave, 2014).

Her research focuses on the social production of space, and in particular the constitution of imaginary geographies in contexts of political violence. In her doctoral research, she has analysed how subjects live and imagine the “spaces of disappearance” in the aftermath of the military dictatorship in Argentina (1975-1983). Currently, she is a postdoctoral fellow from Fondation Fyssen (2014-2016) joining the Corpses of Mass Violence & Genocide research programme at EHESS-IRIS. In her research “Living and imagining space after exhumation: The afterlives of mass graves in post-dictatorship Argentina”, she will analyse how the current process of exhumation of the Disappeared in Argentina intervenes in and modifies the space in which corpses have been hidden. The work aims to tackle the effects that scientific interventions on the mass graves have on victims’ production of spatial knowledge in the aftermath of conflict.
